About Z-CoiL
Z-CoiL is a small, family-owned business in Albuquerque, New Mexico — and the home of the original spring shoe.
It started with a "far out" idea. In 1991, inventor Alvaro dreamed up the idea, by putting a bed spring in a running shoe. It was unlike anything the footwear world had seen, and that was exactly the point. Alvaro and his son Andres set out as a father-and-son duo and traveled the world looking for someone — anyone — willing to manufacture their unconventional creation.
In 1992, the spring shoe came to life. The company has never looked back since.
More than thirty years and over a million shoes sold around the world later, that original idea still walks out our door every day.
Still wears his coils
At 95 years old, Alvaro still calls Albuquerque home — the same city where it all began. He believes in these shoes and the mission behind them as much as he did the day he dreamed them up, and yes, he still wears his coils.
His son Andres keeps the company moving forward, focused on small-business strategy and constantly dreaming up new and better ways to innovate. For Andres, the work is never finished: there's always a smarter design, a better build, and another way to contribute to the pain relief industry through revolutionary footwear.
The third generation steps up
Today, the Z-CoiL story carries into its third generation with General Manager Lindley Gallegos Bach. Building on everything her family built before her, Lindley took the team to the national stage — pitching Z-CoiL on Shark Tank, Season 17, Episode 1.
Three generations. One original idea. The same family, in the same city, still showing up every day for the customers who count on us.
Our promise
We're not a faceless brand. When you call Z-CoiL, you might just get the inventor himself. When you slip into a pair, you're wearing something a family poured three decades of belief into. From our headquarters in Albuquerque to wherever you are in the world, we're here to help you get back on your feet — and stay there.
