Neuropathy

Diabetic neuropathy is a complication of diabetes that affects the nerves, usually peripheral nerves. Peripheral neuropathy impairs proper functioning of the nerves that connect the brain and spinal cord to the muscles, skin, internal organs, and glands. The most common symptoms of neuropathy include numbness and loss of feeling, usually in the feet and hands, although in the early stages, neuropathy can be painful. Diabetics suffering from neuropathy may receive minor injuries that, if not detected and left untreated, can lead to ulceration, deformities, and possibly even amputation. It is important, therefore, for diabetics to wear footwear that protects and does not irritate the feet.

How Z-CoiL® footwear can help:

Z-CoiL® footwear protects the foot from injury in a variety of ways. The shock-absorbing heel, thick forefoot cushioning, and padded insoles reduce impact to the body by up to 50% compared to conventional shoes.

The built-in Z-Orthotic™ and a rocker-bottom sole help to stabilize the bones in the foot and distribute pressure evenly across the mid-foot to reduce the chance of developing pressure sores. The rocker sole helps to maintain a normal gait as well, as people with neuropathy often shuffle when they walk.

Z-CoiL Footwear is currently testing a new style shoe with an extra-soft upper for people with extra-sensitive feet. Check with your Z-CoiL® distributor for availability.
