Achilles Tendonitis
Inflammation of the Achilles tendon, the large tendon at the back of the leg that inserts into the heel, can cause a shooting, burning, or piercing pain. Achilles Tendonitis is a common problem experienced by athletes, although prolonged periods of standing can also cause symptoms. Any activities that repeatedly stress the tendon can cause inflammation, including over-pronating (foot rolling inwards) when you walk, wearing improper shoes, or inadequate stretching prior to athletic activity.
