High Instep

The instep of your foot is the bony structure on top of the foot. The arch of your foot is the curve under the foot, between the heel and forefoot.

The instep runs from the back of the toes to the front of the ankle. The arch runs from the back of the toes to the heel.

High Instep Solution

We built our shoe with extra depth and width in the instep area to accommodate our customers who require some extra room, and we designed a pressure free, flat lacing system to minimize the irritation or soreness that occurs when the laces cross over this area of the foot which has little natural padding. If you have a high instep fit becomes very important. As a general rule, laces work best for a high-instep because you can adust the lacing to the specifics of your instep.

In 2007 I was in an auto accident and sustained a spinal cord injury. I was paralyzed and bedridden until December 4, 2008. During that time, I developed a dropped foot. After my surgery I began walking again, but due to my extremely high instep and very wide feet, I tore the ligaments in the bottom of both feet. No matter what I tried, they would not heal so my podiatrist suggested I try Z-CoiL shoes. I was absolutely surprised and delighted with the very first step I took in them! I had retained some residual back and leg pain after my car accident surgery that would not go away, until I wore Z-CoiL shoes; and now it is much better! I completely recommend these shoes to ANYONE with foot, leg or back pain!!!! Thank you, Z-CoiL!
