How Orthotics Work

Doctors and foot specialists prescribe or recommend orthotics to treat many conditions that cause foot pain. Orthotics are relatively simple technology that enhances footwear's potential to support foot health.

Simple Design

Orthotics are rigid devices that fit into your shoes, extending from the heel to the mid-foot. Orthotics gently cup the heel, and most curve to rise under your natural arch to provide arch support. If orthotics are designed to treat specific foot conditions, like Morton's Neuroma, or prevent complications, as in the case of diabetic neuropathy, they may provide extra cushioning in target areas.

Rigid Support

Unlike insoles, which are flexible and designed solely to provide additional cushioning, orthotics are rigid. Orthotics are intended to keep plantar ligaments that run the length of the bottom of the foot stable. By preventing ligaments from stretching beyond their normal threshold, orthotics help treat and prevent conditions that result from overstretching and tearing—i.e., plantar fasciitis and heel spurs. In other words, orthotics keep plantar ligaments in a state of semi-rest so that they may heel naturally and/or absorb and transfer impact properly.

Built-In Foot Care

The rigid support of orthotics is integrated into the innovative design of Z-CoiL® Pain Relief Footwear®. The Z-Orthotic runs from the heel to mid-foot, and because it is built-in, it does not cramp foot space like after-market orthotics and insoles. Z-CoiL's orthotics can be adjusted to better conform to your foot and provide maximum comfort.
